Recreating from Holiday Decorations

We all take a walk down that Christmas clearance aisle this time of year to check out those last minute deals of items we can store away for next year.  My mind works another way.  I am wondering how I can take those inexpensive items and create sophisticated additions to my home.  Here are a few ideas I created from those clearance aisles.

Candle Decor

You will need:

Clear Glass Hurricane with metal tray (I bought mine at target for $12.99)

Beaded Garland (I bought two small beaded garlands at Target on clearance for $2 and a large bead garland at Michaels on clearance for $1.50 and mixed the two together)

Large Candle (I bought mine at Michaels on clearance for $3.99)

1. Remove metal tray from glass hurricane.  Wash and dry glass hurricane.

2. Cut beaded garland at end and pour beads into glass hurricane.  You can mix and match sizes.  I mixed up my two bead sizes by using my hand to mix them after I poured both sizes in the glass hurricane.

3.  Once you fill the hurricane to the glass nodules, insert the metal tray.

4.  You will notice you can see the bottom of the tray as it sits on the beads.  To hide the tray, use your hand to push down on tray and twist back and forth until the metal bottom is covered by the beads.

5.  Now add your candle on the tray and you have a beautiful piece for your home.  The red I used can translate as a cranberry look so it can be used as a holiday piece as well.  You can use any color bead or candle to achieve an effect that matches your home.

Floral Vase

You will need:

Flowers (I picked up a preset floral pieces in styrofoam at Michaels on Clearance for $6.50 and a 3 extra large individual flowers on clearance for $3 each.)

Clear Glass Vase (I bought mine for $5.99 at TJ Maxx)

Coarse Sand Filling (I bought 3 bags of the coarse black sand at Michaels for $2.99 a bag)

1.  Wash and remove all labels from the glass vase.

2.  If you are using a preset floral in styrofoam, remove all flowers from the styrofoam.  Also remove all leaves from all flowers.

3.  Pour two bags of the sand in the vase.

4.  Arrange flowers in vase.  To create a fuller effect, start from the outside and then fill the center last with three large flowers.

5.  Pour the last of the sand into the vase to keep the flowers in place.

Together I added my wine rack ($9.99) from Ikea that I painted black and put them on a small table ($39.99) from Ikea in my dining area.

The Beginnings of Creativity

I have been encouraged to begin a blog for several months now.  I am first and foremost a fashion designer but my love for crafts and creativity come from my Momma.  She was always taking classes and dragging my sisters and I to craft shows.  She inspired me to use my creative mind and realize there are no limits.  My first creative moment as a child was during one of our many craft show visits.  I saw potential for a wooden standing planter.  Being the small creative mind I was, I did not see it as a planter, but as a bed for my baby dolls.  That was the moment I discovered my potential for creativity.  I intend to share my creative ideas with you in the hopes that you will be inspired as well.  I encourage any ideas or pictures of your creations from my posts.  Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy!
